I think "heavy loads and water high" is more likely a "draw" or arroyo where the heavy rain waters flow down over the side of a hill or mountain, like the one ahead on the center rightside of photo. That's why he also refers to it as "There'll be no paddle up your creek"...it's not a creek that you can ever paddle. It only has water flowing downhill after heavy rains. This rock-slide of boulders was my destination to find a "blaze."
